Communication Con-Tact

Many deafblind children are unable to use their vision and hearing and often have difficulty communicating, interacting with the outside world, interpreting information from the environment and developing concepts. This can result in serious delays in the learning process and therefore in the overall development of the child.

The project "Communication Con-Tact" will provide psycho-educational programs custom designed to promote the communicative and linguistic development of deafblind children, 0 to 6 years of age, Tactile Sign Language and various modes of communication will be used to teach language to children at an early age.

All programs will be done in the laboratory "The First Step...". The RWF team will use an intervention model to address the specific needs of each child. Children will have the opportunity to learn through and be exposed to a variety of stimuli: lights, colors, smells, sounds and tactile materials.

Family members will be actively involved in all phases of the educational process and learn new ways of communicating as a means to effectively interact with their child.

They will also receive psychological support during every phase of the program.

This program represents a major initiative in Italy, thanks to the collaboration that the Roberto Wirth Fund Onlus has started with George Brown College in Toronto, one of the most important centers in the world that supports deafblind individuals and formally trains deafblind educators.

If you are parents of a deafblind child and interested in participating in the "Comunicare Con-Tatto” project, please download and fill out the questionnaire. With the information provided RWF will be able to develop a psycho-educational program that meets the unique needs of your child.
